Ranking Number 1 for your company name is great. But what about the people who don’t know your company exists?
You will have seen all the many posts on LinkedIn regarding SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation to give it its full name, but are you aware of what it is? Or what it does? And most importantly, how it benefits YOU?
SEO is the process of getting your website ranked at the top of Google for high-converting, non-brand searches.
Let’s say your company is called “XYZ Solicitors” and you’re ranked first in Google for “XYZ Solicitors”, well that’s fantastic, but it’s what we call a brand search, performed by users who already know you exist.
So, what about all the hundreds or thousands of people who are searching for your product or service who DON’T know you exist?
These are the people who type searches such as “Solicitors Newcastle”, or “solicitors in Newcastle”, or “Newcastle solicitors” and all the other combinations?
They’re the ones SEO captures for you, and generic search numbers ALWAYS massively out-weigh brand-based searches.
If you want to try out your own rankings, make sure you use “incognito” or “private” browsing mode in your web browser, as your standard browser remembers the websites you go to most frequently and inflates the rankings for sites you visit frequently. You might be logged in on your phone too, so make sure you use incognito mode there as well.
And here is a surprise for you…
SEO is possibly the most targeted form of advertising available.
Imagine the power of being able to put your product or service right in front of someone at the precise moment they’re looking to buy? That’s why being at the top of Google search results is always the holy grail. Plus, the traffic generated from search is invariably the traffic that spends the longest on your site, engages the most with the website and, unsurprisingly, converts the most!
Of course, with the service being in such high demand, there are a vast number of companies out there who apparently offer “SEO services”, but may simply be some form of outreach or digital PR service, which is NOT SEO. Anyone who mentions the phrase “SEO friendly”, save your money and run a mile.
